In 1789 the Bald Eagle was adopted as the emblem of the United States of America. They have a wing span of up to 2.44m and weigh up to 5kg (females are larger than the males). As juveniles they are brown all over except for their yellow feet, then when they mature they develop the characteristic white ‘bald’ head and white tail. The nests are huge – up to 4 metres deep and 2.5 metres wide, weighing up to a tonne. Feeding mainly on fish they live close to water in the wild, surviving up to 30 years.
Meet Bill the Bald Eagle
Our Bald Eagle was named Bill after Bill Clinton and is now a full grown adult bird. He is a regular member of the Bird of Prey Flying Display Team and is loved by guests, especially those who get the chance to fly him during one of our unique ’Experience the Wild’ Hawk Walk’s.
